Maybe the best way to describe the Relief Registry is that it is a combination of Make A Wish and a Wedding Registry.
When I was going through treatments, many of my family and friends asked us if there was anything they could do to help. Even though we really could have used some help, we were hesitant to identify what we needed. It was awkward and even a little embarrassing. So, we almost always thanked them graciously for their offer and told them we would let them know.
The Relief Registry is intended to provide a comfortable and stress free way for a patient to let family and friends know what kinds of things would be helpful and appreciated.
Here is how it will work. The patient and/or primary caregiver will register on the website. A patient ID will be created that is unique to them. They will be presented with a list of products and service which are designed to bring relief, comfort and even a little indulgence. They simple select the ones that they would like. When family, friends, neighbors, office associates, church members or anyone else asks if there is anything they can do to help, they need only direct them to the Relief Registry website and thank them for their concern.
When their friend arrives at the website they register and enter "their" patients ID. They are then given the list of relief items "their" patient has chosen. They can select one or more of them and they go in the shopping cart. Upon checking out, the patient is notified of their benefactor and a voucher for the service (or a shipping notice for products).
It is simple, removes potential awkwardness and free to use.
